Mike Avery – Mike Avery’s Outdoor Magazine

“For me the Outdoors is more than just a hobby…it’s a way of life”, says Avery.
Avery’s love for the Outdoors started early. “My Dad taught me how to hunt and fish when I was a kid, now I just can’t get enough of it”.
The award winning producer didn’t plan to get into outdoor television. He started out in television news. “Working in the News Department was a great experience. It taught me how to use video and sound to tell stories, and that’s a skill I use every day” he says.
In the early days Mike produced weekly segments for television newscasts at WNEM TV5 in Saginaw, Michigan. Those segments were called “News 5 Outdoors”. The two minute reports sparked an interest in expanding his video ventures in the outdoors.
“Early on I learned a video camera could be a passport that would take me to interesting places, and allow me to meet lots of interesting people. “But the best part was sharing those experiences with viewers” says Mike.
Eventually, Avery left TV5 and formed his own company called Avery Outdoor Enterprises. That’s the parent company that now produces the Outdoor Magazine TV show, as well as the syndicated Outdoor Magazine radio program.
It’s no easy task to produce weekly TV and radio shows, but the veteran broadcaster would have it no other way. “God has blessed me to be able to do what I want for a living. I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life”, he says.
These days the scope of Mike’s work has expanded beyond his home state of Michigan, but the goal remains the same….to show people what hunting and fishing is all about. He says, “I want folks to see this outdoor lifestyle is an honorable, and necessary tradition. Not everyone will get the chance to go the places I do, but through my TV and radio programs I want to share my experiences with others.”
